So they told me it was a normal hike around Inland Lake... they neglected to mention that it was a 7 out of 10 in difficulty (10 being the hardest) and required about a 2,000 foot climb, with snow, ice and sinkholes at the top! And, it wasn't around Inland, the trail-head was off of the inland lake loop...
But, thankfully the rest of the crew was not in that great of shape either, so there was plenty of rest breaks. Either way, the view at the top was breathtaking... the lake was entirely snowed and frozen over, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, the mountain peaks in the background framed the scene...
Spirits were high coming back, seeing the end was near from all the switchbacks, gnarly rocky pathways and knee hurting down going.
All in all its one more thing to check off my list, although I'd probably not want to do it again too soon.
Today though I did the hike around Inland lake, it is incredibly beautiful at this time of year, but by the end my feet were complaining and my muscles were sore. Which is good.
I did not finish the contest as well as I had first planned. Weight wise I have been maintaining for the last month or so although there has been a downturn in physical activity. As the weather gets nicer I've been making a really good effort to get out there, taking up a bit of hiking (did Valentine mountain yesterday lovely!)
I wasn't up to it today but I was thinking it would be incredibly cool to run around Inland... I wonder if thats even possible lol.

What can I say?
For all ye faithful blog readers I apologize!
After being sick, followed a few of the worst weeks in my life.. terrible mood swings, over eating, and exhaustion... My legs felt weak, wouldn't run and I felt bloated and fat. This is not really normal... Also stress about the weight gain made me discouraged and that affected my motivation to exercise, what a ridiculous cycle...
Anyhow.. I have so far missed two weigh ins.. I'm going to be aiming for the next one though.
I was able to work for 40 minutes on the treadmill on Monday and felt stronger for it. I walked today and completed a shorter workout yesterday but with more weight challenges.
My eating has been exceptionally good this week.. so I'm thankful for that.
All in all I'm seeing although I wish I could have taken this contest more seriously, its not about that... I really need to work at being faithful with changing how I always eat, not just for 12 weeks. That was apparent to me after I got sick.. I lost a bit of weight but right when I was feeling better I put it all back on. I don't want that to happen after the contest.
Also, my weight gain over 7 years was only about 1/2 lb a month! If I can create a deficit of that small amount then in 7 years with a little work I will be my ideal weight. Increase that number to a pound or more, and I'll
be flying. Patient perseverance and persisting after failure is a difficult lesson to learn but it is needed.
Also, my weight doesn't define me.. its just a body. As incredibly important as that is, it isn't. Personality really is whats important... a sunny countenance, kindness, or a word aptly spoken makes anyone beautiful.. fat or thin. Just like some of the fittest people are some of the meanest ugliest in the world.
So even though my emphasis is on my body.. every once in a while I have to stop and look and remember the other part of things.
Enough rambling.. thanks for sticking with me as I persist on.

What week is it?
I wasn't able to make it to the gym for 10 days! Thats ridiculous.. Fortunately I'm better now, and two of those days I went on some very long walks...
My eating was pretty bad when I was ill.. too many bad choices.. but it looks like I haven't gained much.. Probably just didn't loose either.
I got back to the gym on Monday feeling sluggish and lazy.. Think I lost some muscle.. On the other hand I just need to get back in the swing of things. I still ran for a total of over 13 minutes out of 20 so thats good.. As long as I run over half I'm okay with that.. At that rate I can burn a fair amount of calories.
I also rode the bike but it was really tedious and I have alot of trouble with my feet falling asleep, so even though I can get an intense workout from it, by the time 15 minutes is up I'm about to quit just because my feet are so asleep... But I have been pushing on to 20.
Now I'm up to 40 minutes of cardio.. I think thats a good amount, and it is pretty intense, I'm burning around 170-180 calories per 20 minutes... Hopefully I can bump that number up soon.
Today was better... I beat my record and did Seated Leg Presses 240 lbs X 15! It was hard but I did it! I was thinking maybe I'd start to see my shins bowing because of the stress hahaha...
I was also able to increase some of the other weights without dying so thats good.
Running was pretty off today, but I think its because I did some pretty heavy leg weights before hand...
Then, the sauna and hot tub. In fact, spent the whole evening hanging out at the gym. Hard work, then nice relaxation.
Weeks goals:
1) Get my eating back on track
2) Increase speed in running

SICK
I never get sick! But I've been sick this entire week.. sniveling, exhausted and feverish...
I've got my rest in but I'm beginning to wonder when its going to end.... I've missed a week of workouts.. Hopefully I can make it to the weigh in anyways... Just to remind myself where I'm at and where I need to go!
Apologies for the non-blogging for the people trying to keep up with me!

Week 6?
After a tired week (I think from eating to little) I've had a few days of very productive workouts:
Each time I try to take on a new challenge to try to avoid a boring rut.
Tuesday I challenged myself to warm up for two minutes and run for 18 straight at 5mph! I was dying but I did it! This is great progress..
Wednesday I made myself not run and walked at a steep incline at 4mph, Incline of 6 for 5 minutes 8 for 5minutes 10 for five minutes and 12 for five minutes for a total of 20 minutes. It was pretty difficult.
Thursday (today) I decided to try the running test to determine my fitness level: The goal is to see how much ground you can cover in 12 minutes. I went at a speed of 6mph and 5.5 when I got really tired but picked it up to 6.5 to finish strong. I covered a distance of 1.17 miles... This puts me in the 'fair' category apparently which I can't argue with because the category before that is 'poor' and thats what I must have been before.
So this is pretty exciting, my legs are getting pretty ripped, I notice the difference, as well as the overall smoothness of my body as opposed to ripply jiggly fat. Its encouraging but there is still so far to go!!!
I am also working 20 minutes on the bike every workout as well as assorted weights.
Today I beat my record and burned 185 on the treadmill and 180 on the bike for a total of 365.. at this rate if I eat right I should begin to melt away!!

Week 5 Weigh In!
ALMOST 4 LBS!!!!
I was nervous going in but it looks like I didn't have a reason for that. I had to blink twice at the scale, as last weigh in only showed 1.5 lbs...
My workout endurance is increasing and with that the amount of calories burned yay!
I'm at a bit of an exhausted plateau. I need to dig even deeper into endurance as things have gotten boring and hard, and my energy levels are down. But with these results in front of me I think I can push myself to keep going.. Imagine.. 4+4+4+4+4 = 20 lbs! And theres not too many weeks left of this competition so I've got to make the middle push to make the most of it!

Week 5 Wednesday
What a BAD DAY at the Gym! I'm still a bit sore from the previous two workouts and really really tired. I've been eating what I thought was alot better too. All in all its a bit discouraging. Possibly I was not eating enough on those days with the workout level being that high, so today I had an energy crash, went to the gym.. Eeked out 20 minutes on the Treadmill...
2mins @ 4mph
8mins @ 5mph
And the rest at 4mph... with a 3% incline.
After that I was pooped and left early. Total calories burned 140.
Not so great considering the subway cookies I ate, those guys have 220 calories each! ( I didn't realize until after they were down the hatch)
Time for sleep, hopefully my body can pull itself together and start behaving like someone fit, not fat.
